Encouraging the younger generation to take flight
The Hang Gliding Federation of Australia invites all aviation enthusiasts to come support the AOPA Australian Junior Pilots display at the upcoming ‘Wings Over Illawarra’ Air show on May 4-5 – an exciting new youth program that encourages the younger generation to take flight.
Held at the Illawarra Regional Airport, this exciting program, that the HGFA is a key sponsor of, aims to spark a passion within young aviation enthusiasts, while introducing them to the flying essentials. Junior pilots will be able to have easy access to digital aircraft simulations, friendly pilot mentors and even have their first ground-based flight experience.
Brett Coupland, Operations Manager of HGFA said the HGFA will provide an exciting opportunity to view Paragliding, Hang Gliding, Powered Paragliding and Weightshift Microlight Aircraft at close quarters.
“One of Australia’s largest aviation events, the Wings Over Illawarra show will be set against the stunning backdrop of the Illawarra escarpment,” he said.
“Along with the stunning displays featured throughout the event, the HGFA will also be providing a Hang Gliding simulator and at least one wheel-based powered Paraglider.”
Junior pilots will learn a range of new skills through carefully tailored flight simulations such as the 3D Virtual Reality Flight Simulation. Participants will be invited to experience an immersive flight simulation that is second to none. Junior pilots will receive a AOPA Australian Certificate to recognise this
For the younger generation interested in a career in aviation, experienced Pilot Mentors will be available to provide real time industry level advice about progressing their future career pathways via sports aviation.
In addition to the HGFA display and to holistically educate Junior pilots, an interactive exhibition on aircraft engines and aircraft building will be given to teach and develop fundamental skills like removing and re-installing engine components or drilling and riveting through hands-on experience.
We look forward to seeing you there and introducing you to the world of adrenalin filled personal flight,” said Brett.
