It's okay to fly in Class E

The article and re transponders.

The author/lawyer writes:

The conclusion: I believe it's ok for us to fly in class E airspace. See section 4.7 (ii) - gives us access to E space. 3. 1(b) exempts us from VHF radio. I believe the transponder exemption is described in the Aeronautical Information Pack (1.5) section 6.1.2.

The instrument CASA 202/98, I think, which specifies transponders for class E airspace only applies to aircraft with engine driver electrical systems.

2010 Bogong Cup

Seven days of strong west winds. Two days of flying out of eight days of competition. One task day considered by some to be unsafe due to turbulence due to the west wind. No fires.

What more is there to say, than the 2010 Bogong Cup was not a smashing success? (Should I use that word "smashing?") There was no need for a rest day, unlike at the Forbes Flatlands.

Jonny Durand (flying a Moyes Litespeed RS) was the overall winner, having outpaced the others by twelve minutes on the first day. Rohan Holtkamp (flying a Airborne REV 13.5) was the winner on the second day (and second overall), but only by about five minutes over Jonny in fourth.

The results are found here.

HGFA IT Help Needed (an hour)

"Chris Drake" <christopher@pobox.com> writes:

If any members would like to volunteer a small amount of time to assist the HGFA office in any of the following advanced areas of I.T., we would be extremely grateful. Please email chris.drake@hgfa.asn.au.

If you're an expert in any of these roles, we shouldn't need more than an hour or so of your help to check out setups and/or get us up and running.

Also, if we have any skilled Melbourne-based general PC-support members who are willing to volunteer inexpensive or free support for our office girls, we would also be grateful.
