Duty Pilot Daily Briefing and Checks These are the instructions or "Brief Sheet" for the Duty Pilot. Give you all the prompts for what you need to do, when Duty Pilot.

NOTE: Whilst it is the Duty Pilots responsibility to ensure these tasks are carried out it is EVERYBODY'S RESPONSIBILITY CARRY THEM OUT, I.E. Help out your mate!

Dalby Aerodrome is used mainly by agricultural pilots involved in crop spraying around the area.  They have specific exemptions which allow them special airspace considerations.  This means that their standard approaches and movements around the aerodrome are not what you might normally expect.  They may come in very low and land without any or only a minimum circuit.  They generally clear the area immediately after launch (time is money).  See and be seen and excellent visual flight rules are paramount.

Also to this end, NEVER EVER fly low over the airstrips or approaches to the airstrips.  Use the quadrant of the airfield closest to the hangers and set up inside the standard GA circuit perimeter.  Only land on the verges of the airstrip or well away from the airstrip.

GA use this area, along with some Regular Passenger Transport and Charter flights. There is a Gliding operation nearby at Jondaryan 30k east from Dalby and a number of private agricultural and recreational strips scattered about.  This is due to the excellent area, so suitable to all forms of aviation.

Restricted airspace is located east of Dalby in the Oakey Army Training area. They also have a number of satellite strips scattered through out the Darling Downs.   Please familiarise yourself with airspace considerations in the area before flying XC.

Please practice safe aviation at all times and remember the AIRMANSHIP principles.

Do not land in fields with crops ever! Do not land in fields with live stock wherever possible. The amount and ease of out landings in this area should rarely see any conflict with land owners due to the vast amount of choices for suitable paddocks which have little or no effect on the above.  Check and double check landing areas. Single strand electrical wires abound in this area and are invisible from the air.   They may span for extreme distances across paddocks with very few poles. Any buildings, dams and especially pump houses should be treated with extreme suspicion.

All households in this area use UHF CB for communications when out and about on the farm and in town.  Your radio chatter WILL be heard (all channels are utilised somewhere) and the whole Club judged accordingly. Please be polite and courteous at all times.  Keep unnecessary chatter to a minimum and other transmissions short sharp and to the point. To save on bothering the same people all the time we rotate the radio channels each time we fly.

Remember to be polite and courteous to everyone you meet and 99.9% you will be welcomed and treated with respect.

Close all gates. Leave all areas as you found them. Take litter with you (even other peoples). Treat this country area and its people well and you will no doubt be treated the same.
